charcoal mask

Today, i did a charcoal mask for the first time!

I have no idea if the above is what was used for my face, but i thought it was a cute pic ^. ^
I got a facial done today and the facial lady gave me a charcoal mask! I don't see much of an improvement in my skin yet, but she said it takes about a week to show signs, which makes sense I suppose...skin turnover time and all that. We'll see!

Today! Microwave mug brownies!

Today's new thing! making microwave mug brownies (with my sister)!!!

Tried 2 different recipes. Green Cup is the recipe my sister saved above. Yellow cup is the recipe I found here :)

Consistencies of both recipes before going into the microwave!

After they came out of the microwave! The green cup chocolate cake was much cakier and breadier than the yellow cup chocolate cake. The yellow cup cake was definitely more moist and bordering on pudding-y. They both tasted pretty similar. The differences really came down to texture. All in all, not that great tasting. In fact, they're both sitting on the kitchen table half-eaten o.O hahahaha you win some, you lose some :)

yesterday! eating in paterson!

Yesterday, I left work and went out into the streets of Paterson, NJ to eat lunch. It was my first time eating lunch in real Paterson and not the cafe inside work.

I went to this bodega across the street to get sandwiches. I never knew places like that even existed. Inside the giant "ice cream" freezer were styrofoam cups filled with who knows what from who knows when and topped with soda cup lids. The turkey that went in my sandwich was almost definitely sold under the label "sandwich meat." Several times, people came in, gave the cashier a dollar in cash for 2 cigarettes at a time. There was also a man in a soccer jersey taking all the baked goods from the display case with his bare hands, returning with different baked goods--still in his bare hands--and putting them in the display case. Not only did I get to watch all this, but I also got a big and delicious sandwich for under $3. Awesome.

chinese mustard

today was a pretty busy day of moving my sister out of her nyc apt back to jersey, so it was a pretty close call for finding something new to do. luckily, we got chinese food for dinner and i have never had the chinese mustard that comes in those packets no one uses...until now!

this is the exact packet of chinese mustard that i tried for the first time. it is a lot spicier than any mustard i've ever tasted, which doesn't say much because im not a huge fan of mustard. that being said, i really really like this mustard! it's spicy first and very subtle mustard flavor at the end. i might even start using it on the reg. when i order chinese. it's basically a hot sauce lightly flavored with mustard.

SUMMER OF NEW!

most recent plan: try something brand new every day. starting yesterday to september 6.

yesterday, 5/26/11, i tried a scone for the very first time in my life! it was delicious, and i can't believe i've been missing out this whole time!
